Red No. 2
Red No. 2 is a proprietary strain from Spectrum Cannabis. Red No. 2 medical marijuana contains 17-20% THC and less than 0.07% CBD. Due to the high concentration of THC and low CBD, novice users should start with small doses to avoid unwanted effects. The intoxication caused by the Red 2 strain is quite strong. Red No. 2 is a cross between strains from Afghanistan, Mexico and Colombia (Lemon Skunk).
The Red No. 2 strain produces a primarily stimulating effect. THC provides strong physical relaxation; however, its motivating effects provide energy, focus, creativity and mood enhancement. Users looking for effects known for indica strains will not find this strain useful.
The high concentration of caryophyllene in this strain acts as an antidepressant and sedative. The terpene Terpineol is also found in Red 2 medical marijuana, which also provides sedative effects (although this strain is not primarily sedative). It helps with depression and fatigue, but is also effective in dealing with anxiety, stress, insomnia, ADD, ADHD and PTSD.
Cariophyllene and terpineol are also anti-inflammatory compounds, so Red No. 2 is effective in treating inflammation, Crohn's disease, IBS and arthritis. Cariophyllene enhances the analgesic properties of this variety. People suffering from chronic pain, back pain, neck pain, joint pain, inflammation, arthritis, muscle pain, headaches, migraines and fibromyalgia will also benefit from Lemon Skunk. Cariophyllene and terpineol also have anti-cancer effects, reducing the growth rate of cancer cells.
A terpene called pinene also provides some benefits. In addition to being an anti-inflammatory, it acts as a stimulant, causing an increase in concentration. Pinene is also a bronchodilator, so it helps alleviate breathing problems such as asthma. Terpineol contained in Red No. 2 has antimicrobial and antioxidant effects. It is even known to help treat malaria. Patients report an "earthy" citrus aroma with a lemon tint.
